Anyone who has ever worked a job in their life can sympathize with feeling stuck.
Whether it’s your dream career, or just a job to make ends meet, there’s always going to be a time when you feel stuck, trapped, and stressed by work. As someone who has worked four jobs at once, trust me, I get it. It’s just the nature of how things are, and every industry has their own challenges working against their employees.
To get personal here, the industry that I’ve been trying to break into is design. In the design industry (for as glorious as it can look to a young up-and-coming artist) has its own heap of stress inducers.
With the current declining-attention crisis and abundance of information from social media, designers (who are at the center of it all) are facing just as many problems as the everyday consumer, if not more perpetuated through the workplace environment. I took on the challenge to research the root of the problems facing the design industry and ways to help improve the condition for designers in the industry.
Everyone deserves a rest, and I believe there are changes that can be made to give every designer the breathing room to create and have fun with the work they do. At the end of the day, that’s what design is all about.
All good progress starts with my favorite three core principles: focus, flow, and deep work.
